Ghalamkar, the art of using wooden blocks to create patterns on cloth, is the oldest and most traditional textile printing method. It’s been used in Iran since ancient times and the way it’s done in the present day hasn’t changed for millennia.

Ghalamkari (Calico art)

Ghalamkari, Calico work is an art which produces coloured mould cloth used as a tablecloth, table covers, prayer rug, bags, etc. and which is formed by printing on a cotton cloth. Production of colourful designs and printing on the cloth by moulds has apparently been created in the 4th century A.D. in India and from there to Alexandria. Printing on the cloth was evolved in Iran during the Sassanid Dynasty and new techniques were initiated in the decoration of woollen and cotton clothes. This art was extended generally in Isfahan during the Safavid period.

Great products, tolerable website

I would give the products themselves a 5/5. Great products (looks and feel) and also great presentation upon delivery. The only somewhat negative aspect of the Persis experience is that the website is quite a bit buggy, and the prices that you see when scrolling through products rarely match the actual price that is displayed when you click on the product, which is a bit misleading. Edit: The products are not always great, I bought the immortal necklace and the length and look of the necklace were completely different than what was advertised, and the pendant was bent.

Gorgeous

We had to remodel our kitchen and I wanted a taste of Iran in the look of the new small kitchen. So we chose accent tiles from your collection. It was so easy to put in the order online and they arrived very quickly to Chicago all in perfect condition. I also had a lovely phone conversation when i called to ask a questions about one of the tiles before we ordered. They are gorgeous and I will always have a little bit of Iran when I am cooking!
