Dervish Qalyan Hookah
The Dervish qalyan is beautifully hand engraved from the finest walnut wood by our artist based in Karaj, with a glass base decorated in hand-applied gold gilt and enamel painting. Its vignette portrait depicts Nasser al-Din Shah Qajar, Shah of Persia from 1848 to 1896, giving the piece the flavour of a Qajar hookah from the great age of Persian coffeehouse culture.
Darvish (also Darvish or Darvich; in Persian: درويش) is an alternate transliteration of the Persian word “dervish”, referring to a Sufi aspirant. Between the dervish name and the Qajar portrait, this qalyan carries more story than most pieces twice its price.
