THE ART OF KHATAM
Khatam is an ancient Persian technique of inlaying. It is a version of marquetry in which artisans decorate the surface of wooden articles with delicate pieces of wood, bone and metal, precisely cut into intricate geometric patterns.
The warm shimmer of a gold khatam box makes it a natural anniversary or wedding present, and the three sizes nest well as a matching set. For a painted rather than gilded finish, see the Tazhib Jewellery Boxes Khatam Kari Art, or browse the full Persian jewellery box collection.
