The Faravahar symbol
The Farvahar (Persian: فروهر), also known as the foruhar or faravahar, is one of the best known symbols of Zoroastrianism, the main religion of pre-Islamic Persia, and a lasting emblem of Persian identity. Today it is the most widely worn pendant among Iranians and has become a secular national symbol rather than a strictly religious one. It stands for good thoughts (pendār-e nik), good words (goftār-e nik) and good deeds (kerdār-e nik), the core principles of Zoroastrian belief.
