Available from Persis Collection, the novel follows a mother whose perspective on her marriage and personal relationships begins to shift after a new neighbour moves into the house opposite. The Quiet Literary Style of I’ll Turn Off the Lights
The artistic strength of the novel lies in the contrast between its modest outward events and the emotional questions beneath them. A neighbour arriving across the street is an ordinary occurrence, yet Pirzad uses that change to alter the way the mother sees her marriage, relationships and neglected personal desires. Her restrained, detail-focused style gives significance to feelings that might otherwise remain unspoken, particularly loneliness, doubt and love.
