Khatam Art:
Khātam is an ancient Persian technique of inlaying. It is a version of marquetry in which surfaces are decorated with delicate, precisely cut pieces of wood, bone and metal arranged in intricate geometric patterns, and applying khatamkari on copper is among its most demanding forms. Inlaid articles took on special significance in the Safavid era, when artists decorated doors, mirror frames, Quran boxes, pen holders, lanterns and shrines; woods used include betel, walnut, cypress and pine. A handmade copper vase pair like this makes a memorable wedding, anniversary or Nowruz present for anyone who loves Persian craft.
