This Shir o Khorshid plate is a hand-engraved brass piece, made for us by our master artisans in Persian Heritage and finished in black and gold tones. The design carries the Lion and Sun (Persian: شیر و خورشید, shir o khorshid), one of the great emblems of Persia, worked into the metal in the traditional ghalam-zani style.
The Art of Ghalam Zani
Ghalam-zani is the Persian art of engraving and embossing, hammering, repoussé and chasing detailed designs onto metals such as copper, silver, gold and brass. It is one of the oldest Persian handicrafts, with a history that reaches back several thousand years. Each lion and sun ghalamzani plate carries the marks of genuine handwork and patient craftsmanship.
