This beautiful wooden handmade star khatam backgammon and chess set is made of pieces of metal and wood, beautifully laid on and decorated with Tazhib art, giving an attractive flaunt to your home decor. The khatam star pattern radiating across the surface is what gives the set its name.
The gameboard has been made by an artisan based in Persian Heritage using high-quality material.

Khatam Art
Khatam is an ancient Persian technique of inlaying. It is a version of marquetry where art forms are made by decorating the surface of wooden articles with delicate pieces of wood, bone and metal, precisely cut into intricate geometric patterns.
Designing inlaid articles is a highly elaborate process. Inlaid articles took on special significance in the Safavid era as artists created their precious artworks. Woods used include betel, walnut, cypress and pine, and the works range from doors, windows and mirror frames to Quran boxes, pen holders, lanterns and shrines.
