Mourners of Bayal Persian Books by Gholam-Hossein Sa’edi

Mourners of Bayal Persian Books by Gholam-Hossein Sa’edi contains eight interconnected stories. They follow the inhabitants of Bayal, an imaginary village shaped by grief and mourning. Available from Persis Collection, this paperback suits readers interested in Persian literature and modern realist fiction. Sa’edi’s work also has an important connection with Persian cinema. The fourth story was later adapted into the celebrated film The Cow. For readers looking to shop Persian books with a strong connection to modern Persian literature and cinema, this is a particularly notable title.

Persian Books by Gholam-Hossein Sa’edi

The book is presented in a paperback edition and a format identified in the source as roqa’i. Rather than a collection of unrelated pieces, the book contains eight interconnected stories. They follow the people of the imagined village of Bayal and create a continuous setting throughout the book. Gholam-Hossein Sa’edi, also known by the pen name Gohar Morad, was a psychiatrist, writer, and playwright. He was also an important figure in contemporary Persian realist literature, theatre and cinema. This makes the book a strong choice for readers browsing Persian Story Books or searching for Persian Books. It also suits customers building a collection through a specialist Persian Bookstore. Order tracking is provided for every order.

Persian Story Books and the Dark World of Bayal

What gives Mourners of Bayal its artistic force is the troubled world shared by its characters. The supplied extract captures that atmosphere through Mashdi Hassan’s disturbing transformation. He desperately insists that he can still be accepted as a cow. The passage belongs to the interconnected world of Bayal. Its fourth story was later adapted into the celebrated film The Cow. Reading the original Persian beside an English translation gives readers a closer sense of Gholam-Hossein Sa’edi’s dialogue. It also reveals the psychological intensity of the scene. Among Persian Story Books, Mourners of Bayal offers a direct encounter with Sa’edi’s fictional village. Its eight connected stories are shaped by grief, fear, and unusual behaviour.

English translation:

“Mashdi Hassan sprang to his feet. Like a madman, he ran and bounded around the stable. Every few steps, he struck his head against the wall and let out a roar, until he reached the hay bin and stopped. For a few moments, his chest rose and fell. Then he thrust his head into the hay bin, filled his mouth with fodder and came to stand over the well, in the very place where Aslan had scattered the straw. In a voice that could barely make its way out of his throat, he said, ‘Just because I don’t have a tail, can’t I be a cow? Won’t you accept me without a tail? Huh?’”

Great products, tolerable website

I would give the products themselves a 5/5. Great products (looks and feel) and also great presentation upon delivery. The only somewhat negative aspect of the Persis experience is that the website is quite a bit buggy, and the prices that you see when scrolling through products rarely match the actual price that is displayed when you click on the product, which is a bit misleading. Edit: The products are not always great, I bought the immortal necklace and the length and look of the necklace were completely different than what was advertised, and the pendant was bent.

Prompt and professional

My recent purchase from Persis was a great experience. The items arrived exactly as they had been advertised and much faster than I had expected. Despite a relatively pricy delivery cost, it worked out much cheaper than getting equivalent items in Australia. I will definitely consider Persis for my next purchase. They even added a couple of fridge magnets, which was a nice touch.

Gorgeous

We had to remodel our kitchen and I wanted a taste of Iran in the look of the new small kitchen. So we chose accent tiles from your collection. It was so easy to put in the order online and they arrived very quickly to Chicago all in perfect condition. I also had a lovely phone conversation when i called to ask a questions about one of the tiles before we ordered. They are gorgeous and I will always have a little bit of Iran when I am cooking! Thank you!
