خانواده‌ی سعید همراه با خانواده دایی‌ جان و چند خانواده‌ی دیگر در باغی بزرگ و چند عمارتی زندگی می‌کنند.

ایرج پزشکزاد نویسنده کتاب می‌گوید باغی که داستان در آن روایت می‌شود الهام گرفته شده از باغی است که پزشکزاد کودکی‌اش را در آن گذرانده است. این باغ ارث مادری‌اش بوده و همراه خاله‌ها و دایی‌هایش در آن زندگی می‌کردند.
