Nothing Ashtray
A Persian ashtray with a sense of humour: this wooden ashtray is shaped like the Persian letter “H” (He) and decorated with a line of poetry by Saadi, the great poet of Shiraz:
مرا به هیچ بدادی و من هنوز بر آنم
"You gave me nothing and I'm still on it"
The play on “nothing” (hich) is a familiar wink to anyone who knows Persian literature, which makes this small piece a favourite gift between friends who share the culture. Handmade in wood, it works equally well as a desk tidy or a conversation piece next to a qalyan from our Persian hookah and shisha collection.
