RUMI PLATTER
Rumi, the 13th century Persian poet and Sufi mystic, is probably the most widely read poet the Persian language has produced, and his verse still moves easily between languages and centuries. On this Rumi platter his words are given physical form: the calligraphy sweeps across the ceramic while gold plated birds settle among the letters, a quiet nod to the soul’s flight that runs through his poetry.
At 30 cm the platter works as true dinnerware, carrying mains, appetisers or sweets to the table, and just as well as a centrepiece or shelf piece when the meal is done. Few objects make a better gift for Rumi lovers, since the poem arrives as something held and used rather than shelved. It converses nicely with the Golden Poetry Platter, which carries a line by Hushang Ebtehaj, and with the rest of our Persian plates. To protect the gilded details, wash by hand only.
