About Stone Setting
Inlaid work is one of the branches of stone handicrafts, meaning decoration with jewels. The art involves placing precious and semi-precious stones on dishes, ornaments and other decorative objects, and it is also called stone setting.
Making ornaments and decorative utensils set with jewels has been common in Persian for thousands of years. Cups, bowls and jewelled ornaments from the Achaemenid, Parthian and Sassanid periods show how skilled artists have long been at placing precious and semi-precious stones on such objects. Like other arts and traditions of the time, these techniques were passed down from father to son, and only rarely from master to trusted student.
