Pieces of metal and wood are beautifully laid over the wooden surface, and the lid is decorated with a tazhib art painting in a radiant star design, the gilded illumination style of classical Persian manuscripts. Each box is made by an artisan based in Persian Heritage.

THE ART OF KHATAM
Khatam is an ancient Persian technique of inlaying. It is a version of marquetry in which artisans decorate the surface of wooden articles with delicate pieces of wood, bone and metal, precisely cut into intricate geometric patterns. The star khatam design at this scale is a showpiece of the craft.
