Evil eye: a nazar is an eye-shaped amulet believed to protect against the evil eye, and the word has been borrowed into Persian, Albanian, Hindi-Urdu, Pashto, Bengali, Kurdish, Punjabi and other languages. In Turkey it is known as the nazar boncuğu; in Persian and Afghan folklore it is called a cheshm nazar (چشم نظر) or nazar qurbāni (نظرقربانی); in India and Pakistan the Hindi-Urdu phrase Chashm-e-Baddoor wards off the evil eye.
