HAFT SEEN SET
The Haft-Seen Set is a traditional collection of seven items that are displayed on a tablecloth called “Sofreh” during the Persian New Year, known as Nowruz. These items each hold specific symbolic meanings related to new year wishes and blessings. The commonly included items in the Haft-Seen Set are Sabzeh, Samanu, Senjed, Seer, Seeb, Sumac, and Serkeh. These elements are chosen for their association with the letter “S” in the Persian language and their meanings are closely tied to the celebration of the new year. Additionally, other items such as a goldfish, mirror, garlic, and hyacinth may also be included. The Haft-Seen Set is an important part of Nowruz celebrations and is widely observed by Iranian communities and many cultures in Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Balkan Peninsula.
