CHOVGAN KHATAM KARI JEWELLERY BOX
This handmade khatam kari box pairs two Persian arts in one piece. Fine pieces of metal and wood are laid over the surface in precise geometric patterns, while the lid carries a chovgan painting, a miniature scene of the ancient Persian game of polo. The box is made in a generous large size by an artisan based in Persian Heritage.
Size: 22 x 14 x 10 cm
Material: Wood and Brass
THE ART OF KHATAM
Khatam is an ancient Persian technique of inlaying. It is a version of marquetry in which artisans decorate the surface of wooden articles with delicate pieces of wood, bone and metal, precisely cut into intricate geometric patterns. A single Persian khatam box can hold thousands of these tiny pieces, which is why the craft is so admired.
The roomy interior keeps rings, earrings and keepsakes together, so the box is as useful on a dressing table as it is beautiful on a shelf. You can compare sizes and designs in our Persian jewellery box collection, or see the smaller Chovgan Khatam Kari Jewellery Boxes in the same design family.
