Yalda Table Decorations
On Yalda Night, the longest night of the year, the family gathers around one table until the small hours. Our Yalda table decorations are handmade pieces for that table: ceramic pomegranates, bowls and plates for fruit and nuts, tea sets and samovars, and cloths for the table and the korsi. New to the festival? Our Yalda Night guide explains the traditions behind each part of the table.
Ceramic pomegranates
The pomegranate is the fruit of Yalda, and a ceramic pomegranate keeps its place on the table long after the real fruit has been eaten. Choose red, turquoise or white pieces with golden calligraphy and Persian poetry, or the lion and sun motif. See all our ceramic pomegranates in the Pomegranate Sculptures collection.
Bowls and plates for fruit and nuts
Pomegranate seeds, watermelon, ajil and sweets are served in hand painted Persian bowls and plates. Choose from pomegranate bowls, a golden pomegranate dish set, Kilim serving plates, a Kilim tray with bowls and Qajar girl plate sets.
Tea sets and samovars
Tea is poured all night on Yalda, so a samovar or a Persian tea set belongs on the table. Browse our Persian samovars in coal and electric models, or choose a Minakari, Shah Abbas or turquoise Persian tea set.
Tablecloths and the korsi
A cotton tablecloth with a pomegranate pattern sets the scene. For a traditional gathering on the floor, our Persian korsi table cover in handwoven Termeh and our korsi blankets, made to your size and colour, keep everyone warm through the night.
Yalda Table Decorations FAQ
What do you put on a Yalda table?
A Yalda table usually holds pomegranates, watermelon, ajil (mixed nuts and dried fruit), sweets, a book of Hafez for fortune telling, candles and tea. Ceramic pomegranates, hand painted bowls and a pomegranate tablecloth bring it all together.
Why are pomegranates and watermelon on the Yalda table?
Their red colour stands for the glow of dawn and the warmth of life, and the many seeds of the pomegranate for plenty in the year ahead.
Can I use these pieces after Yalda Night?
Yes. Ceramic pomegranates, bowls and tea sets work all year round, and many families use them again on the Haft Seen table at Nowruz.
Do you send Yalda table decorations worldwide?
Yes. Every order is sent worldwide from our London warehouse. For more ideas, see all our Yalda decorations and gifts.
